Business Challenge

After a few years of successful user adoption and solid business traction, the founders of EasyLlama looked to make evolutionary improvements to their core product offering. Having an intentional objective focused on increasing subscriber population and expansion of content, the team focused on making investments that would improve platform-wide user experience (for admins as well as learners), increase the scale of their learning course library, and redefining their billing model to offer greater value to new and existing members - all while retaining their current subscribers.

The visionary EasyLlama founders engaged the Scalio Creative Team on 3 core design initiatives:

  1. Significantly improve the deployment of learning courses, content engagement and content completion within Admin and Learner experiences
     
  2. Significantly increase the operational effectiveness and content creation output by EasyLlama content  and development teams
     
  3. Significantly improve the quality of marketing and product positioning; increase user/subscriber conversions and renewals
     


1. Improved Admin and Learner Experiences

 

Making Education Enjoyable

The primary objective of any changes to EasyLlama’s design was to maintain ease of use - one of the primary pillars of their positioning, while also maintaining an engaging and entertaining experience.

Some of the courses had to meet certain state-mandated length requirements, spanning up to an hour or more. By incorporating gamification mechanics, we were able to enhance the experience and make it more engaging while improving the quality and integrity of the learning material. As a result of the redesign, we were able to maintain one of the industry’s highest NPS (NetPromoter) scores!

 

 

Taking Education on the Go

EasyLlama is well-known for its snack-sized, self-paced web-based learning experience. To ensure that users can take their learning with them, we have optimized the experience for cross-platform use. This means that users can seamlessly continue their course from where they left off, even if they switch to another device.

 

 

Supported Full Accessibility Standards

Our interactions were crafted with accessibility as a top priority and aligned with the Level AAA criteria of the WCAG 2.0 standards. We were happy to align with EasyLlama on the importance of making the web accessible for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole.

 

2. Increase Operational Effectiveness and Content Creation

 

(Re)composable Design System

We were able to empower the EasyLlama development and content creation teams by building a design system that not only improved the quality of the user experience, but also offered the team an entire library of prefabricated, reusable UI and learning course templates to fast-track their content creation.

 

Using a design system to create UI components provides a number of advantages over simply copying and pasting UI elements. Here are a few key benefits:

  1. Consistency: A design system ensures consistency in UI components, leading to a cohesive user experience.
     
  2. Efficiency: Pre-built UI components in a design system save time and effort for designers and developers, leading to more efficient design processes.
     
  3. Scalability: UI components in a design system can be easily adapted to different screen sizes and use cases, promoting flexibility and scalability.
     
  4. Accessibility: Design systems that include accessibility guidelines ensure UI components are accessible to all users.

 

3. Improved Marketing, Product Positioning and Subscriber Conversions

 

A Delightful Brand Update

Scalio collaborated with the client to revamp their brand aesthetic and offer a more interactive, memorable and engaging experience. Users loved the “cute and playful llamas” shown throughout the original site branding, so the team explored ways to lean into this brand personality. The result was a fun, playful llama character that was strategically integrated into numerous touch points within the platform to inspire more delightful and meaningful interactions. For example, a happy llama would congratulate users when they are assigned a new course, and a party llama would celebrate when more people were added to the training.

 

Increase User/Subscriber Conversions

In order to improve sign-up conversion rates, we redesigned the purchase flow to be more intuitive for users of all backgrounds - from small businesses to large enterprises. We also provided options for A/B testing to optimize the funnel and increase ROI. 

 

Additionally, redesigns of the most visited pages on the website were carefully crafted to improve their conversion rates and provided more useful information to showcase the value of the EasyLlama solution.

 

Pricing Optimization & Positioning

When transforming a service’s pricing model, improving the user experience and positioning are often a key factors to build and maintain trust with consumers. To increase recurring revenue for the client, we proposed an unlimited subscription plan, effectively turning the platform into a "Netflix for workplace education." This enhancement required not only more content, but features that would offer guided purpose for subscribers to assign, engage and complete that learning content.

 

Conclusion

In collaboration with EasyLlama, Scalio tackled the challenge of revolutionizing their learning experience, course creation, marketing website, and client dashboard. The main focus was to maintain ease of use while offering a delightfully engaging experience. The redesign included gamification, cross-platform optimization, and accessibility alignment.

A new “Llama” brand personality was created to drive meaningful interactions and memorable messaging, while creation of a robust design system empowered their content and development teams to scale. 

Lastly, Scalio partnered with the EasyLlama Founders on robust product strategy to evolve their pricing model and reposition the service with an unlimited subscription plan - unlocking unprecedented content access for all subscribers while increasing recurring revenue and subscriber LTV.
